Emerging through the ranks Makola are the duo that you need to know about!
In case you missed our live review of their concert, let me bring you up to speed.
With roots firmly in Finland and Ghana the producer and rapper duo incorporate a myriad of sounds from the depth and diligence of Hip Hop to the rawness of Grime, capturing a soundscape bubbling from core of the London music scene, which plays influences within their music.
Their single Crown is a brainchild of their cleverly formulated sound, and involves a discussion about this history of our country. When describing the track the duo respond: “Crown is a discussion about the monarchy, it’s relevance and what the British Empire stands for. When Wiley accepted an OBE it made us think about those who hadn’t accepted like Benjamin Zephaniah, Bowie and Lennon. Just made me question why and for what purpose do these accolades exist.”
Heavily influenced by the cultural hub that is London they go onto say: ‘London is our main influence. What we see and do from day to day shapes the music we make. With London being so culturally diverse, brimming with subcultures – you hear that in our music.’
