Kehlani Stands Firm and Says Rita Ora’s New Single ‘Girls’ Has Harmful Lyrics.

Kehlani shared her opinion on Rita Ora’s latest single and let’s just say it went left for the R&B singer after that.

Ora released her new single Girls featuring Cardi B, Bebe Rexha & Charlie XCX yesterday. I’m sure we’re all aware of how good Rita Ora is at attracting bad press, so when singer we had never heard of tweeted her thoughts on Girls stating, ‘a song like this just fuels the male gaze’ and the conversation turned to the fetishising of the LGBTQ+ community in some of the lyrics, Kehlani co-signed the statement… and TL went up and shade came down.

Kehlani stood firm on co-signing the above statement by singer Hayley Kiyoko, reiterating that the lyrics were harmful and that her gripe with the song had nothing to do with ‘talent’ but ‘choice’. She was of course met with criticism and people started to cite the song Distraction off of her debut album SweetSexySavage to which she explained was an invalid argument from detractors.

Ora’s only response since Hayley & Kehlani’s comments has been to billboard who reported the singer said “It’s not actually that deep. It really is just about that. It’s a free message, and for me, really fun. It’s just a fun record.”.
