While I’m hungover in bed from the night before, it’s NYD and I gotta slap on the anticipated Tory Lanez tape, Chixtape 4. I gotta check myself like wait… Am I bugging? I’m hearing beats from old school artists like Pretty Ricky, Chingy, Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Ray J, R Kelly and even the Proud Family theme tune. Then I gotta re up the Intro.
Has Tory really fucked up the first day of 2017 like this?
This mix-tape has me in all kinds of feelings. If you weren’t listening to this when it got released you were sleeping on the kid because this is the hottest tape I’ve heard in a while. The first song, Slow Grind has me predicting serious baby making to these bangers. With beats that have you feeling like your back in the early 2000’s, Tory is cruising in his own Lane. He’s got me asking, Drake who? Bryson who? The bar has been set so high. I gotta take my hat off to his producer with these sample choices though; they have really worked up something special and nobody samples these throwbacks better than Tory himself.
Not only did we get Chixtape 4, Tory Lanez brought us The New Toronto 2 on the same damn day. If you don’t feel Tory the way I do, you gotta at least support the work ethic and grind because this shit is spectacular. The New Toronto 2 has a more trappy ‘for the mandem’ vibe in comparison to Chixtape 4. Although my favourite song so far Set It Off x Better is taken from The New Toronto 2; Chixtape 4 as a whole has my heart. Every single song on Chixtape 4 I can run without skipping.
After these two releases, I’m wondering what else is gunna pop off in the music world this year. I’m hoping to see big power moves from particular artists.
What’s your favourite tape out of the two?
